Been back in Singapore for a month. Always wanted to do up such a post, for my own reference when I visit HK the next time for a short trip or for people who actually see this post and are going HK.

FOOD

Good food

Street food/snacks
  1. Waffles from Namshan area. (Okay obviously one doesn't travel there to eat it cause it's at Kowloon Tong area and near my exchange sch)
  2. Curry fishballs from the stall next to XXL chicken chop, MongKok MTR
  3. Egglets from Cheung Chau
  4. Mango mochi from Cheung Chau
  5. Egg tarts from Tai Cheong bakery, Central MTR
  6. Cold noodles at Argyle Centre, Mongkok MTR (Note: Get Freshtea by Happy Lemon also, they are side by side!)
HK styled cafe
  1. Bolo bun with butter from Kam Wah, Prince Edward MTR Exit B2
  2. Toast and scrambled eggs and egg yolk with almond pudding from Australian Dairy Co. , Jordan MTR Exit C2, closed on Thursdays
  3. Toast and scrambled eggs from Capital Cafe, Wanchai/Mongkok (Note: It's similar to Australian Dairy Co., but with much better service and faster queues)
  4. Tomato based soup with noodles/macaroni/beehoon and crispy toasts from Sing Huen Yuen, Central MTR. (Note: I think it taste better with macaroni, okay I didn't try the beehoon one so maybe it's my personal dislike for Maggi noodles hmm)
  5. Chee cheong fun and curry fishballs from 通达食店, Yau Ma Tei/MongKok MTR etc.
Noodles
  1. Wanton noodles from Mak Man Kee, Jordan MTR Exit C2 (Note: It's just next to Australian Dairy Co., and Mak's noodles at Jordan wasn't as nice and IMO, it has the best wantons in HK especially if you love prawns)
  2. Dumpling noodles from Lam Sum Kee, Shamshuipo MTR (Note: It's also famous for wanton etc, but I think their dumplings taste better than wantons and I think they have the best noodles among all the famous noodle I have eaten cause it's springy and doesn't have the weird yellow noodle taste)
  3. Beef noodles from Kau Kee, Central MTR (Note: The entire shop sells beef related things only)
Roasted meat
  1. Roasted pork and roasted duck from Yat Lok, Central/Taipo MTR
  2. Guangdong BBQ which has numerous outlets, and all the roasted meat is good!
Dimsum
  1. Ma la gao (steamed cake), glutinous rice, baked BBQ pork buns, osmanthus jelly from Tim Ho Wan, Central/Shamshuipo/Northpoint MTR (Note: Various outlets, but Shamshuipo outlet is big enough hence don't really have to queue)
  2. Chee cheong fun wrapped around doughstick, custard bun, chicken feet from One Dim Sum, Prince Edward MTR Exit A.
  3. Liushabao from San Hing dimsum, Sheung Wan or Central MTR, Kennedy Town (Note: It opens from 3am-4pm and you have to take a bus/taxi there)
  4. Ma la gao and lotus paste bun from Lin Heung tea house, Central MTR (Note: It opens at like 6am, but I haven't try a lot of its dishes)

Cafes
  1. Matcha milk and pork loin croissant from Coffee Alley, Causeway Bay/Tsim Sha Tsui MTR. (Note: There's a long queue of up to like 2.5 hours so do go there early! And the croissant was some seasonal item, so it may not be there anymore. The waffles are famous too, but not a 'must-try' IMO)
  2. Matcha drink from Via Tokyo, Causeway Bay. (Note: It has very little seats but the cute latte art makes up for it. To me, at least. One of the best matcha drink I ever have!)
  3. Eggs Benedict and coffee from 18Grams, Mongkok/Sheung Wan MTR.
HK styled desserts
  1. Walnut paste from Luk Lam, Shamshuipo MTR.
  2. Black sesame ice-cream with paste from Auntie Sweets, Causeway Bay MTR
  3. Various flavours tangyuan in ginger soup from Sheng Kee, Jordan MTR (Note: Numerous outlets!)
  4. Coconut with caramel pudding from Heart's Dessert, Shamshuipo MTR (Note: Quite expensive but eating it warm during winter is really good!)
Sushi
Sushi One at Mongkok/Tsim Sha Tsui MTR. Cause I only ate from here unless you include Sushi Takeout haha. Half priced sushi after 10pm, how awesome ^^

Ramen
  1. Ichiran, Causeway Bay MTR (Note: The queue can be crazy, so go during non-peak hours. And order strong for the broth so it will taste better. And don't order the beancurd dessert thing cause it's tasteless and expensive)
  2. Butao Ramen, Central MTR (Note: It has numerous outlets and don't try the green/red king cause it doesn't taste good. BUT must order their eggs! BEST RAMEN EGGS EVER)
Overrated food
  1. Mido cafe because it's expensive and portion is small. But nice old school environment I think!
  2. Wai Kee beef noodles because I don't like livers still ewww. But can try their kaya french toast which is pretty good :)
  3. Teawood's toast because the queue is long and the food is not even that good. Only the thick toast is not bad.
  4. Hui Lau Shan because I don't see how the mango desserts are so fantastic leh.
  5. Honolulu Cafe because the egg tart is a bit bland :( Didn't try their other food though!
  6. Four Seasons Claypot rice because the rice a bit bland to me, cause you have to add your own seasoning hmm and the long queue is kind of a turn off. But everyone else says it's nice hmm.
  7. Mak's Noodles because the yellow noodle taste is so strong and portion feels smaller.
  8. Lan Fong Yuen because the portion of the pork chop burger is really small and it has the WORST service ever. The silk stocking milk tea is pretty good though.
Other food that I want to try (but didn't have the opportunity)
  1. Black sesame and condensed milk toast from Cafe Matchbox, Causeway Bay MTR
  2. Yogurt from Smile Yogurt Dessert Bar, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui MTR
  3. Cafe Corridor, Causeway Bay MTR
  4. Poached Eggs and coffee from Cafe Deadend, Sheung Wan MTR
  5. Green tea flavoured dimsum (omg haha) from 老點點心竹筒飯, Mongkok MTR
  6. Wanton noodles and liushabao from Ho Hung Kee, Causeway Bay MTR
  7. Black sesame egglet from Mammy Pancake, Hung Hom MTR
SHOPPING
  1. Fa Yuen street, walk from Prince Edward/Mongkok East MTR. Rows of shops but mainly clothes that are not super nice, so must slowly dig
  2. Argyle Centre, Mongkok MTR. Shopping heaven, and do eat the cold noodles as mentioned just now.
  3. Kwai Fong MTR. Another feel like Far East Shopping Centre place!
  4. Tsuen Wan MTR, didn't go and shop there but I heard that it's good from locals
  5. Shenzhen/Guangzhou. Apparently Guangzhou is even cheaper!
THINGS TO DO(other than touristy stuff)
  1. Hiking but be prepared to spend one whole day. I will recommend Dragon's Back since it's easy, the views are pretty and you can end up at the beach, Tai Long Wan. Views actually get a little repetitive if you hike too much haha.
  2. Cliff jump at Sai Kung. I didn't try but do it if you like thrill hahaha.
  3. Cycling (Not applicable to me cause I can't cycle sigh pie)
That being said, go and do touristy things like go to the Peak and Lantau Island to enjoy the views, Lamma island for seafood, Victoria Harbour for lights show (can try taking the ferry between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui to look at all the pretty lights)

I’ve often heard that people only start wanting you when they think that you don’t want them. It’s true; I’ve lived by it. Whether its business or friendships or especially romantic relationships, the person who cares less always seems to be the person who has the most power. At least that’s what it might feel like for the person that cares more. But I question whether this is true or not.

I have been called the, “queen of not giving a shit.” One of my many talents is that I am really good at both not actually caring, as well as acting like I don’t care. Just yesterday, some girlfriends and I were talking about boys and I quoted Almost Famous as my romance mantra, “If you never take it seriously, you never get hurt.” And it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve ultimately come off as cynical about relationships. People think it stems from really not caring; on the contrary, it stems from the fear of caring too much.

I know how to be the person who doesn’t text back, who doesn’t call back, who waits for the guy to make the first move, and who acts like I couldn’t care less whether he does or he doesn’t. Being this person comes natural to me because I have convinced myself that being the other person comes with too much potential damage. And I do think to an extent it does. I may never have truly had my heart broken, but I’ve known people who have; I’ve been there for them. And that shit isn’t fun. It’s depressing and devastating and oftentimes a really long journey to returning to being okay.

But the thing is I think people who put themselves out there; people who let you know they care a lot – I think that they have the right idea. I think the human heart especially when it’s young, is really resilient. I think that the journey to being okay when one’s heart has been broken is a journey that is usually worth facing even when love hasn’t done what you wanted. But when you’re the one who cares less, who apparently doesn’t care at all, you’ll go never go on this journey because you’ll convince yourself that you don’t need to. You convince yourself that you’re fine even when you’re not.

What people don’t seem to realize about the person who cares less or acts like they care less is that they’re usually the one who ends up being hurt the most. It is human to want love and to want to be taken care of and to want to take care of someone else. To deny that, is simply to deny one’s humanity. Being the “queen of not giving a shit” doesn’t make one healthier or stronger or wiser or cooler or even happier. It just makes you feel less human. It makes you feel, less and less.

When it’s all said and done, even people who are perfectly lonely and perfectly alone – still need their person. Whether it’s a romantic partner, a good friend, a loyal family member – everybody needs a person. And the truth is if you act like you don’t care enough, people will eventually start to believe you. So if you feel like you care too much or feel too much or love too much, remember that the alternative is worse. We should all try to seek balance because virtue is that middle ground between any two extremes. But when it comes to love, I don’t know if there is such a thing as loving too much or showing that you love too much. And if there is, I think it’s commendable; not something to be ashamed of. Because if you don’t tell people and show people that you do care, that you do have feelings for them, that you do love them, how the hell are they supposed to know?

So I suppose you can go through life thinking that eventually someone will break down all the walls that you’ve put up, because you don’t want anyone to know how much you can care; how much you can love. But life is short and people are busy. And maybe when the right person comes along, maybe they’ll see right through you. Maybe. But if you keep telling yourself that you don’t care, maybe you’ll also start believing it and you won’t even be able to see your person when you find them. So get out while you can and start giving a shit; and if your heart breaks, let it break. Because it’ll be okay. You will be okay.

Sing Huen Yuen at Central on 16th May, Friday

This place is like those daipaidong with very authentic HK feel ^^ Really love the tomato noodles. Had it with macaroni, egg, beef and luncheon meat. Not bad.

Also ordered the crispy toast with honey and lemon drizzle (which was goood) and also the honey lemon with salt (which came from the sour plum) which was too salty sadly.

Laksa for dinner on 16th May, Friday

Too lazy to head out for dinner and too sick of school food.., So meet my dinner. Instant laksa!

Last paper on 17th May, Saturday

YES, I have a paper on Saturday :'(

But to end off my papers (and celebrate), I had Haagen Daz icecream!! In the form of cookie sandwich. WHY SINGAPORE DOESN'T HAVE SUCH THINGS.

Had double caramel flavour this time round.

Then headed off to Tsuen Wan to eat at Yung Kee which was famous for roasted goose among all locals. A bit expensive but it's our last dinner together as a group. Really miss this group of people awww :(

Roasted goose, the specialty there. Not bad, love the skin of the roasted goose, but nah too fattening.

Steamed fish, the dish that I ate the most cause it's been so long since I had steamed fish. Love fish hehe.

Some mango prawn thing with mayo, not bad.

Broccoli with scallop and some lobster meat

Shopping and Ichiran ramen at Causeway Bay for dinner, 18th May, Sunday

Some of them went for cliff jumping at Sai Kung. Didn't go in the end hmm. Wonder if I will even dare to jump if I am there haha. Looks pretty amazing though.

Headed for shopping at Mongkok, didn't buy much stuff though. But I ate a lot oops. From cold noodles (love the octopus hehehe) to salted cheese with oreo and cocoa from freshtea by happy lemon. So happy to find happy lemon in Hong Kong. Had been missing it since it disappeared from Singapore. WHY SINGAPOREANS ONLY LIKE KOI AND GONGCHA AND SHARETEA ):

Happy lemon's salted cheese I WILL MISS YOU

Was supposed to eat at Coffee Alley for dinner but omgggg the queue :( And they ran out of queue numbers so we headed to Ichiran ramen. :)

Ordered the strong flavour broth this time and enjoyed it much more :) Yess choose the strong flavour! But Ichiran's eggs is disappointing :( Butao's egg is 100x better LOL.

And don't bother ordering the tofu dessert. Not smooth at all and tasteless and overpriced!!!

Disappointing egg but omnomnom the soup :)

Yuen Long day trip, Coffee alley for dinner, SushiOne for supper on 19th May, Monday

Spotting birds at HK Wetland Park

Look at all the pretty lotus :)

Hey butterfly

Pingshan heritage trail, love rustic buildings

Perfect brick wall to take ootd? HAHA

Famous Kei Kee dessert. B 仔凉粉. Never knew one can be so full from fruits haha

Coffee Alley for dinner. Amazing waffles again :)

Matcha milk I love you so so much :)

Tried their house brew as well. Hmm not bad.

I miss you already, sashimi at half price SIGH.

Sharp Island at Sai Kung on 20th May, Tuesday

Had Timhowan for brunch before heading to Sai Kung. Love TimHoWan's BBQ pork buns seriously.

Can you see the lighter part in the water? That's supposed to be the tombolo.  Sadly the tide was too high :(
Me with all the vulcanic rocks. Geography and geeky me hehe. Always amazed by Nature's wonders!
Mrs Fields' triple chocolate brownie at Sheung Wan cause we couldn't go to 瑞记 cause the rain was too heavy SIGH. THIS BROWNIE IS GOOD ^^
Finally eating at Hui Lau Shan. Must try cause it's all over the place in HK? But seriously, have much better desserts in HK than this haha.

Happy me with Australian Dairy Co's eggs and toast. LOVE THEIR EGGS. How can scrambled eggs taste so freaking good manzxzx?!

Egg yolk and almond pudding, the pudding which changed my attitude towards almond paste. REALLY LOVE THIS.

Teakha and steamboat on 21 May, Wednesday

This teakha place was really hard to locate! So secluded (kind of) but secluded cafes are always nice. Like you can go there for your alone time, I LIKE. But I wasn't there alone haha. Tried their matcha cheesecake and chai tea. Not bad :)

Matcha cheesecake, chai tea and thai iced tea

And guess who's my company?

Hahaha someone finally came to find me from SG YAAY.

Great catching up ever since I went to HK for exchange haha. Didn't meet for long but glad we managed to meet up in HK.

Went for more food. Back at Sing Huen Yuen and look at the crispy bun which I didn't manage to take photo the first time. AMAZING FOOD.

Look at the tomato, I love this shop so much!

Walked around, headed back to school, packed luggage and then time to meet the rest for dinner.

Crazy amount of food for steamboat

CRAZY SIZED PIG TROTTERS. They used it to make the soup. And the pig trotters tasted not bad hehe.

Last day in HK, 22nd May
Matcha green tea with red bean and pudding, really damn good. Happy lemon I will miss you :'(

Egglets cause I think I will miss it haha.

Curry fishballs, which we spammed the sauce during the winter cause it felt shiok to drink it down when it was so cold.

Cheong fun with sweet sauce and peanut sauce. Still remember how I randomly encountered upon this shop with the girls.

So this exchange has been an amazing experience. Yes, I missed home during the first few days or maybe first few weeks even? There were times I wished I didn't leave Singapore at all and thinking how it will be to return to Singapore. But somewhere, somehow, I began to love the independence of being on exchange. Yes, I have to do my own laundry, think of what to have every single meal, make sure I drink enough water etc (without people nagging at me to drink water) but I get to choose what time I want to sleep, what time I return back to my own room. Yes, HK is a lot about eating. All the bolo bun, dimsum, wanton noodles, roasted meat, desserts... But HK is not only about eating. It can be a great place for Nature stuff too. All the hiking :) Really glad for the company cause without them, I think all I will be doing on exchange is eating and shopping. Thought I will be alone hence I have already googled for things to do on my own... HAHA.

Being in Singapore now felt as if I have never ever left home. Cause everything is still so familiar to me here. Just thinking... If I head back to HK, will I feel if I never left HK?

HK's culture and pace of life may not be really nice. Like it's so fast etc but I have grown used to that place. I really disliked HK the first time I headed there with my family. I mean I still don't love the people there, but really enjoy their transport etc. SO EFFICIENT.

Really thankful for the opportunity to head to HK for exchange even though I didn't want to leave at first. Even when I regret applying to HK at first.

And thankful I passed all my modules even I played so much harder than I studied haha.

City University of Hong Kong, thank you for the memories. And thank you, my fellow exchange friends. For the overnight stay at Macau ferry terminal, meeting bulls when we hike, having lack of train seats at Taiwan. For the late night suppers at Sushione, for the early breakfast of pancakes, for the lack of food to eat at Hell/Hall Can, for the waffles at Namshan, for the snacking while studying. For drinking outside at Hell Can, for the card games where we grow beans haha, for the poker while drinking, for playing pool cause we have nothing to do, for watching movies in theatres, for the jumpshots we do at touristy places, for all the search for food on openrice.

Basically, really thankful for this exchange trip :) I mean I don't think I really learnt much in terms of culture cause I am forever with Singaporeans but still, I think an exchange kind of make you move out of your comfort zone (staying alone in a foreign country is counted okay). And this is really a once-in-a-lifetime experience cause staying in a foreign country is not the same as touring it. So yes, I recommend everyone to go for exchange.

Okay good nighttt and no more HK posts oh well :/

So Week 16 and part of week 17 was happily spent in Taiwan hmm.. Here to blog about part of my 17th and 18th week in HK while I am sitting at my desk in Singapore (sadly or not so sadly haha)

30th April- 4th May

Mak's Noodles at Jordan
Meet wanton noodles from Mak's noodles. Not very good sadly.

5th May- 11th May

Takeabreak cafe for desserts on 5th May, Monday

Went to the noodle stall at Prince Edward to eat the huge bowl of noodles again. Really really love the 酸辣 taste!! And then after that we decided to have desserts. Off to Takeabreak which looks so small haha. Really damn little seats.

Here's my large face with strawberry waffles omnomnom.

Ordered their honey latte even though it was at night cause that was their specialty drink but nahhh, too sweet for my liking. But cute teddy bear :)

Butao Ramen for the second time before Cheung Chau trip on 6th May, Tuesday

Having the green edition now. Tasted kind of funny though haha, seaweed (?) and cheese?

Company of the day :)

Lots of shops selling huge buns for bun scrambling competition ^^

Bun scrambling competition! But it's all fake plastic buns cause they don't want to waste food haha

Sinmei Tea and Kau Kee beef noodles at Sheung Wan/Central on 7th May, Wednesday

Ice cream, matcha sauce (?) and matcha brownie. Really quite shiok ^^ My favourite dish among all those we ordered :)

My matcha drink. Didn't really like this cause it was too bitter I think!

Matcha lava cake! Was really looking forward to this, but sadly it didn't really flow oh well :(
Kau Kee's curry beef noodles

Normal beef noodles

The soup and the tendons were amazingggg. Think I ate damn a lot of beef in HK HAHA.

Food hunt along Hung Hom on 8th/9th May

Jap curry with pork cutlet which was not bad :)

Fattening, greasy burgers, glad we didn't order one each haha.

Dinner at EXP at Festival Walk on 10th May, Saturday

A few days before my finals and hence we stayed in to study. Sick of school food, we decided to try this EXP restaurant at Festival Walk cause it has many likes on openrice haha.

Squid ink spaghetti with scallop and roe. Kind of like the roe hehe.

Ate this, ordered another pizza to share among five of us. And had Haagen Daz ice cream for dessert LOL. Rum & raisin yaaay. And tried some caramel thing which was damn sweet but good hehe.

San Hing dimsum, met at 7.30am on 11th May, Sunday

This place was famous for liushabao haha that supposedly Eason Chan loves it.

Ordered dishes like har kow, siew mai, charsaobao, chicken feet (cause I like it and in the end I was forced to finish everything cause no one ate it sighhh) which was normal.

Shall come up with another post about Week 19 and Week 20 soon :)
