Instagram Tumblr

I remember how everyday after school I used to write whatever happened in school here. Cause writing about what happened in school, without any thoughts/opinions is the safest. HAHA the girl then was so foolish that she forgot that writing betrays your feelings and that wasn't that safe too.

Oh well, blogs are currently a thing of yesterday. It's all about pictures (Instagram) and videos (Youtube). No one has the attention span to scroll and read through all these word vomit. Just wanted to share some songs but this post had started off with me being an old woman commiserating the death of blogs HAHA.

New favourites:

1. So Far Away

Oh, love
Tell me there's a river I can swim that will bring you back to me
'Cause I don't know how to love someone else
I don't know how to forget your face

2. 如果雨之后

谁都没错 都认真地爱过
在命运面前才懂人有多脆弱
阻止不了谁离开我

我 是深深地爱过
没有人能取代 你在我的心中
你从来没有离开过 如果你要走也带我走

3. 等你下課 (Almost everyone's new earworm I think HAHA)

总有一天 总有一年 会发现
有人默默的陪在你的身边

4. 追光者

我可以跟在你身後
像影子追著光夢遊
我可以等在這路口
不管你會不會經過

5. 600D (Support local haha)

See I, don't get what's bothering them?
But I, don't care so I'm leaving right now
Honestly, I don't care if they didn't like me
I'm free and I'm feeling so good
Don't care if they didn't like me
I'm free and I'm feeling so good

Hey there, here with Part II of the trip ✌

DAY 3

15 Jan 2018, Toscana Valley, A Cup Of Love, Bonaza Exotic Zoo, The Chocolate Factory and Ban Mai Chay Nam Museum/Restaurant

One piece of advice from us- check if the attractions are open! We had wanted to visit both Pete's maze and Farm Chok Chai but they were both closed on Mondays 😭

First stop of the day was Toscana Valley (which wasn't even in our itinerary). HAHA, suspect the driver wanted to visit the place and take pictures 😛 Anyway, the place was quite pretty so well, you might wish to stay there.

And opposite of Toscana Valley was a random sunflower field (which I don't know what the name is still) but sunflowers are love.

 Sunflower paradise.

I guess I love how sunflowers look so cheery.

Next up, A cup of love where we fed fishes and goats. Realise this trip is a lot about animals hahaha.

Meh, ewe goat to be kidding me right?

Cute house for picture taking?
Who needs a BTO when you have such a quaint cottage? I kid.

Headed over to Farm ChokChai to realise it's closed -facepalm-. So if you want to head over to the farm and milk some cows, please remember they only open on weekends.

So we had dessert instead.

Rum and raisin ice-cream outside of the farm and The Chocolate Factory.
Will recommend the iced chocolate (so damn rich) yummmm.

Headed back to our accommodation before dinner at this restaurant, Ban Mai Chay Nam which was a stone's throw away. It was a restaurant, museum and resort (see what I said about Khao Yai's attractions).

Gotta say, I love the ambiance and the decorations of this place (so many collectibles!!). The food was normal but a bit on the pricier end, guess we are paying for the ambiance haha.

Getting my tom yum fix and hi vegetables cause we are healthy girls

Fried rice and fried pork (which was damn fatty oh no).

So after food, we explored the museum section of the place. Love how they have games e.g. foosball, table hockey (which I lost by a close margin I insist haha).

Yup, coffee is a necessary evil.

DAY 4

16 Jan 2018, Khao Yai National Park

I am such a terrible friend, forcing people to hike on their birthday 😐 But I have to say my favourite attractions have to be either the park or the sunflower fields. What to do, introverts like to be alone 😯

So first order of the day was breakfast at our accommodation, which is The Goodville Cottage. I love the exterior of the cottage, the breakfast but the bed is a little too hard 😰 This reminds me how my back is so stiff and I probably should find a good yoga class to go for.

Said breakfast and breakfast view

So, yup it was time for Khao Yai National Park, which is a UNESCO Heritage site. We met animals like monkeys, deers (many of them), lizard (ew) and porcupine (aww).

Because Khao Yai is still a relatively young travel destination (I think), many of the signs/facilities are a bit lacking (not sure if that's the right description). Hiking in this national park is a bit scary (not much concrete paths, signs are not aplenty and it makes you appreciate Singapore's hiking trails a bit more (hehe).

Here's one with Haew Suwat waterfall

We actually wanted to hike all the way to but realise it's not concrete path and takes 3 hours for one way so... luckily we have a driver?

 Haew Suwat Waterfall again

Was googling for the exact name when I saw this fact. Do you know that the movie, The Beach's jump scene was shot here? (Ok actually I don't even know the existence of the movie but hey, Leonardo Dicaprio starred in it).

Views from Pa Deo Dai Cliff which was pretty amazing

Except that the drive there was up a terrible winding road which made me carsick oh nooo. Was it worth it? Probably, but I might not do it again hahaha.

Had a quick dinner (sadly the entire place only have one decent food place I think) before it was the night safari tour.

Well, it was quite disappointing cause I didn't get to see elephants (haha) but there's many deers and porcupines I guess.

Next up, the highlight of the trip... Lala Mukha Tented Resort. 10/10 will recommend this place! There's 3 types of room namely Eco-Safari Tent, Deluxe Savanna Tent and Loft Tree House and the latter 2 has its own toilets. We stayed in the Eco-Safari tent which was amazing and the common toilets were so clean (so no worries about not having own toilet).

Bed 10/10 in terms of comfort

DAY 5

17 Jan 2018, BKK

Humble abode for the past night

I guess the only regret was how we didn't have enough time to chill at the place, given how we only checked in at night and had to check out around 10ish.

Pool

There's something about soaking in a pool that is surrounded by nature (and also having the entire pool to yourself fyeah.)

We rushed to BKK for... After You. Finally get the hype over their Shibuya toast 😋 (Can I go back to BKK just for food now)

That's it for my Khao Yai's adventures 😔 Given how Khao Yai's transport system is not very well-developed, I would strongly recommend getting a drive. We actually hired our driver from Klook and he was damn nice (even though we can't really understand each other). He wasn't required to send us to the airport after After You at Siam Paragon but he was worried that we couldn't catch the flight in time... so he waited for us at the mall while we gobble down the desserts.

Can't wait for my next trip again (cause work is 💩). Vietnam (Hanoi), Indonesia (Bali,Yogyakarta, Padang), Japan (Okinawa, Hokkaido) anyone? 😆

Hey there,

I am here to document my trip to Khao Yai (even though I don't know who actually even read this space).

Khao Yai is a town (is that the right word?) that is approximately 2.5 hours drive away from Bangkok and I first notice it for the pretty sunflower fields about a year back. And I guess in 2017, pictures/articles of Khao Yai appeared all over the place (Instagram/newspaper/travel blogs).

So, off we go to Khao Yai (before it becomes even more mainstream) 😁

DAY 1

13 Jan 2018, BKK

Flew into BKK via AirAsia and... our flight was delayed from early morning to afternoon 😓😔 Because of airshow for their children's day (sidenote, why their children's day so cool one!)

Well, because we reach BKK late, we only had time to dapao famous Michelin Bib Gourmand Go-Ang chicken rice (shun bian pack mango sticky rice) and check out a few shops/stalls along the streets.

And I conclude, we are not that lucky cause a black out occured when we were bathing/about to bathe -facepalm-

DAY 2

14 Jan 2018, Primo Piazza, The Bloom and Pak Chong night market

So, this officially marks the start of our adventures in Khao Yai 😊 Primo Piazza in our opinion was slightly overrated/feel too touristy with its imitation of Italy HAHA. Nonetheless, I guess you can visit here to feed alpacas 😍

 Said Italian architecture

People will say "Home is where the heart is" but I will add on the heart is where the food is (haha)

Pretty blooms (and we spotted this before Andrea Chong posted a photo of this ok)

Have to admit the greatest fears (other than the fear of the driver turning out to be a crook) is a lack of food in Khao Yai. I mean come on, half the blog posts talk about Mediterranean (and other forms of Western) food in Khao Yai... Erm I am here for Thai food (?)

So I am glad to announce there is a decent food option near Primo Piazza and it's called Aramis Restorante. The place looks atas but luckily the price wasn't exorbitant.

Butterfly pea drink (actually there's no taste?), watermelon juice and fried rice.
Gotta give them 100 for presentation hahaha.

Chicken drumlets and stir fried Kang Kong

If I remember correctly, all the above only cost $8 per person?!😋

So next up, The Bloom Hotel by TV Pool. Many of the attractions in Khao Yai are accommodations e.g. Baan Suan Noi (Hobbit House) and The Bloom hmmm.

The Bloom was basically a place with many flowers blooming hahaha. Can imagine it being famous among influencers I guess.

This vaguely reminds me of wisteria tunnel in Japan (albeit a less pretty version).

See, perfect places to take your new profile picture

Dinner was at Pak Chong night market, which was an absolute adventure because the stallholders don't know much English (compared to BKK). Communication was done mainly via hand signs (haha).

Tried several food along the streets there e.g. Thai crispy pancake “Khanom Bueang”, takoyaki (thank god never LS HAHA). And also tried a nice bowl of noodles with char siew from a shop that I don't remember (even if I do, I won't know how to read).

So that's it for Part I of my adventures in Khao Yai 😊

Got reminded of the story on carrot, eggs vs coffee being soaked in water, which was shared during a Sec 4 class. For people who don't know this story or forgot this story, read it here. The summary is that we should be coffee, which managed to change water (the adversity). And being a lame kid, I went around telling people I want to be an egg because eggs are delicious. #facepalm

Thinking back, aren't there many eggs in this life?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat?  Did I have a fluid spirit, but after death, a break up, a financial hardship, or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff?  Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart?

On a related (or maybe not very related note), do you/I want to be mediocre? I know I am mediocre but why do I want to be more than that/why do I believe I can be more than that?

So, it is the time of the year where one may get to see multiple collages of people's best nine moments. Thought it will be apt to reflect upon some of the best (imo) food, drink, song, movie, TV show etc.

BEST FOOD

Would have wanted to differentiate into different cuisines but I don't think I am that adventurous with food. So the best food in 2017 would have to be Teppei Syokudo.

Colourful chunks of sashimi on rice 😍

The serving size of the rice is not a lot so I like it cause less carbs HAHA. While Sushiro (featured in the best nine on Instagram) is much cheaper, I prefer Teppei's version because the rice is less sweet (probably due to the sauce) and also no queue (cause time is precious and I had to queue for almost an hour for Sushiro).

Other honourable mentions include: Muchachos (my favourite Mexican restaurant, okay actually never eat much Mexican food) and Lola's Cafe (all time favourite cafe with amazing honey chicken wings).

BEST COFFEE/TEA

Having gone to Australia (Sydney) this year, obviously the best coffee will have to be from Australia right.

The best coffee will have to be from Bourke Street Bakery (Do try their pastries especially the ginger creme brulee tart as well). Coffee from The Lab is pretty good as well.

As for coffee/tea in SG, I do enjoy Magic Coffee (double shot ristretto to milk, in a magical ratio, indeed magical) from Strangers' Reunion!

Let's make love, coffee, and magic.

Okay, quote to live by. But can someone sponsor my coffee class?

Honourable mentions include Waan Cha (which I discovered at the Geylang Serai Bazaar), G7 Trung Nguyen Espresso ($3.80 for 15 packs leh) and also Essenso 2 in 1.

Waan Cha's coffee milk tea.

Usually Thai iced milk tea is overly sweet but this coffee adds this edge to the milk tea, cutting through the sweetness. So this milk tea is perfect if you aren't a fan of cloyingly sweet drinks (like me).

BEST EXPERIENCE

I guess the best experience will have to be meeting a koala bear and petting her at Walkabout Wildlife Park hehe (sorry can't remember her name already).

Koala bear awww

Australia, you will have a place in my heart (love their beaches, their blue skies).

A close second will be experiencing Yunomori Onsen. This probably pale in comparison to those in Japan but I thought this was still quite authentic in the sense given that there are a couple of Japanese mums and daughters enjoying the onsen there... Not a super cheap experience but I guess it's worth it to go and experience it at least once.

And bonus points for Yunomori Onsen for their decent food!

Last but not least, how could I forget sky-diving in Wollogong? Actually I was expecting a greater sense of achievement from doing it, oops. But definitely will recommend people to try it!

BEST MOVIE

I think I probably catch too many movies (what else is there to do in Singapore?) but the best (probably due to recency bias haha) is Coco.

And nope, the movie isn't about Coconuts but is about a kid's pursuit of his passion in music/dreams and balancing it with his family's expectations. Perfect movie for Asian kids and families I suppose? How often do we hear parents saying "How can you make a living by doing art/music?" etc?

There are a whole list of decent movies in 2017 (Marvel's movies are always good, Wonder Woman was good as well but Justice League was meh) but yes Coco you won (my vote).

BEST TV SHOW

I don't watch a lot of TV shows (oops) but Netflix's version of A Series of Unfortunate Events is the best thing I have seen in a while. I think the last I was addicted to something was probably Sherlock (and before that probably Vampire Diaries erms). Well, can't wait for the 2nd season of this show! And Neil Patrick Harris is a damn good actor.

BEST SONG

Well, the song that I keep listening this year is probably Heavier by Linkin' Park (ft. Kiiara). Probably too late to try and read into songs when lives have been lost (to depression).

On a slightly happier note, Ed Sheeran's newest album is dope (ooh young lingo is it). Happier, Perfect, New Man, Supermarket Flowers are all quite good.

As for Chinese/Korean songs, 后来的我们by 五月天, 黑色柳丁by Hebe,Can You Hear My Heart (from Scarlet Heart Ryeo), Stay With Me (from Guardian: The Lonely and Great God) are all quite good.

Okay, why do I like sad songs.

BEST BOOK

Definitely "When Breath Becomes Air". 10/10 will recommend cause I can't really remember the last time I felt such heartache (and cried badly).

We always think we have a lot of time but I guess the message is that we don't know when life will end.

On a related note, Being Mortal is a good book, especially if you are someone who often contemplate about what really constitutes life e.g Does a life where you are dependent on life support considered a life etc. Sidenote, if euthanasia is the way out for people with terminal illness to relieve their pain and suffering (ok typically those are the people who want to go for that), then what is the way out for people who are suffering mentally?

That marks the end of 2017? In this upcoming year, I hope I will get to travel more (time to explore Southeast Asia more, e.g. Indonesia, Vietnam), to find a proper hobby (instead of watching so much Youtube videos...) and to stop being nice to people who don't deserve it (hahaha).

Happy New Year (in advance) to everybody 😊
