Here I am with the part II of my education journey and I wonder whether there will be a part III (where I decide to do Masters or something hahaha)

Pre- University Education

After my O levels, I went into National Junior College which was one of my least favourite part of my education journey. I actually wanted to be in HCI (not that it will make any difference now) but being a 17 year old student, not being part of my dream school felt horrible HAHA. And referring to my post on my primary and secondary schools, the two schools always provided some interesting activities for the students to be part of. I realised I didn't mention it previously but Anderson had all the Experiential Learning Cycle, outdoor trips to Bukit Timah or around AMK... And all I had from NJC was an outing to Singapore Discovery Centre... Okay lah hi army boys.

Academic
This was the point I started disliking Science. Biology involved many numerous terms argh. It was interesting if you were just reading for fun BUT it sucked big time if you were mugging for examinations. Chemistry was really horrible. I thought Chemistry was really fun during secondary school days but then in JC I started to do badly in JC. SIGH. But I really did work hard for Chemistry and I have no idea why I still got a B in the end.

I didn't do really well for Economics as well and Economics became the only subject that I had tuition for HAHAHA. But waste of my money because I got a B in the end as well. #fail

Overall, I think I really didn't do well for A levels, which doesn't really matter now. Or maybe it does. Scholarships etc sigh.

Social
It was during NJ days that I started learning a musical instrument. Can't believe I joined the Harmonica Band, performed in front of people (as a group lah), participated in SYF etc. Just got reminded of this- an interviewer asked me whether I am still playing the harmonica which I said, "sadly no". Sigh I think this ended the conversation. But this brings me to a lesson.

Lesson 4 (yes continue from Part I): Hobbies and interests are really important.

In terms of friends, yes I did gain numerous valuable friendships, which were formed over similar interests. It was so great finding people who love reading and I still remember how our post exam activities involved finding second-hand storybooks and camwhoring.

And I remember how I used to study at MOS Burger or Subway and be a total lightbulb HAHA.

HAHA my hair used to be so long.

Hmm but what really stuck with me was how things could change in the blink of an eye. You could be so close to this person, texting every single day and suddenly you all just stop texting and drift apart. I really did wonder what exactly happened between us. Oh you kaypoh people (anyone actually reads this??), it's a her not a him. #notalovestory

It's funny how I think I changed the most during this period of my life but I can't seem to put my JC experiences in words??? Maybe there are just too much information that I really can't share here without it being too obvious so I will just summarise that. It was a painful lesson but I have learnt well.

Lesson 5: Don't assume and think too much into things. It's up to a person to prove it to you, you don't have to find reasons and excuses for the person.

Post A-levels

This is totally not part of my formal education journey BUT since it was my first time working at a huge company, it did educate me about office work and politics. And it taught me Excel skills which proved useful during University days haha. Okay so being very free during work, I always think about weird things that may or not may be related to philosophy. I think about life, the search for love and the search for food HAHAHA. I think this was the period I gained A LOT of weight. All my good hawker food, I miss it all. It was also during this period of time that I earned enough to travel to Korea. And I really love the idea of earning money and then spending on travel. There are so many things in this world that I haven't explore. :'(

University Days

The reason why I didn't say JC was the absolute worst part of my education journey was because... University is the worst part. At least Year 1 Semester 1 was. I stayed at Hall 7 (for a few months) and I left not because I hated hall life but because I hated being away from home. What an irony because in Year 2 I fought so hard to be away from home to be on exchange HAHA.

Okay back to Year 1 Semester 1. So compared to JC days where we were spoon fed, University was all about independent learning. I ABSOLUTELY LOATHED BUSINESS LAW BECAUSE I HATED GREY AREAS. (Not linked to why I didn't like NJ ok lame) Or maybe it was related to how I just couldn't do well for the class participation. I didn't like how it felt in class. Like it was a horrifying battlefield. That how a misstep (mistake in answering) could result in death (more like death stare from people).

I also couldn't understand why I had to do IT. Yes, that's when my Excel skills came in useful. I fell asleep almost every single lesson during IT because it's really boring and it's in the afternoon omgggg. And I really didn't like the group dynamics and this guy actually had the decency to imply that my contributions were worthless.

BUT BITCH PLEASE, GUESS WHOSE IDEA SAVED EVERYONE'S ASSES? Hehe

Hahaha I just realised I have this tendency to be the one to come up with the initial ideas? Hmm, see how reflections are useful, I suddenly have an realisation while doing one. So here's another lesson for you.

Lesson 6: Reflections are good for you because it helps you consolidate thoughts and maybe you will remember things as well as me HAHA.

During Year 1 Semester 1, I had a GPA that was way below second upper when I actually stayed up so late to mug. I wanted to do Banking & Finance so I focused a lot on Accounting and Financial Management and screw up modules like IT which was supposedly do-able. After the release of the results, I learnt that in NBS, most people actually don't like sharing their GPA with one another and some people do judge people based on their GPA. And how there are people who are really selfish with their notes. I guess I was shocked BUT I have gotten used to it.

I really hated NBS, hated the modules I was doing and I guess the turning point (so exaggerated) for me was when I started doing modules like Marketing. I love how Marketing is full of common sense, yet creative. It wasn't that fluffy as what people said. So I kind of stopped regretting being in NBS and stopped hoping that I had went to FASS. And there's something I did not actually tell this to a lot of people: I have actually applied for early admission to NTU Psychology instead of Business. During JC days I really liked Psychology but did Business for reasons which I do not want to think about anymore hahaha. But it's okay cause doing Psychology elective make me realise I may not do well in Psychology.

Oh before I forgot, it was also during Year 1 Semester 2, I kind of enjoyed being in school and maybe started feeling more confident of myself.

Lesson 7: “You can have anything you want if you dress for it.” –Edith Head, no but really dressing better makes you feel more confident of yourself, so why not just put that tiny amount of effort to make yourself happier?

The next best moment in University was going for Exchange. I had never regret going to Hong Kong for exchange during Year 2 Semester 2 when everyone was trying very hard to secure a good internship. A good internship may have helped me in securing a job now BUT the experience of spending an ENTIRE semester overseas was amazing. It is not really about the country you are in, but more of the fact that you are away from many things for a while. It's really nice to escape reality, just for a while.

I applied for the exchange spot to City University of Hong Kong, not knowing any single one who applied for it. I didn't really want to go to Hong Kong, I didn't like the pace of life etc. And I have always thought that I will be in Australia/New Zealand for exchange :( But in the end, I couldn't match many modules to Australia universities and NZ was really expensive.

Lesson 8: Sometimes, the best decisions are those made on impulse.
Oh and a bit of lesson 3 of how everything happens for a reason :')

Okay, so here's a not so flattering photo of me at my exchange school.

My days after exchange were kind of a blur. In the semester after exchange, I did my all time favourite module International Business Environment, IBE because it was taught by my favourite prof, the one who made me think that Marketing is not just fluff. It really involves thinking. And I have to emphasize it really was not easy to do well for her module haha.

Trying to find motivation after exchange was really hard. Other than dealing with motivation issues, I had to deal with not so awesome groupmates LOL. But I guess through certain projects, I have learnt that how conflicts are often necessary. Disgusting OB lessons about conflicts.

Lesson 9: Differentiate dysfunctional and functional conflicts

Despite suffering from a lack of motivation, I am glad I managed to pull up my GPA and in my final semester, I had the highest GPA in my entire three years hehe. To all those people who said year 1 GPA would be the best among all your years in university, THIS IS FOR YOU. And to all those people who said your project grades possibly doesn't matter, I can only say THAT'S NONSENSE. Maybe it does not really matter for modules with like 60% finals BUT it definitely matters for A LOT of the Marketing modules since they are 40% finals. Oh and other than working with good group mates, it's essential to take electives to pull up your GPA. Thankful for the availability of biology modules for the only A+ in my life.

Lesson 10: Take (some) advice with a pinch of salt. You are the only one in control. (Okay your groupmates are in control of your grades too)

With that, bye NTU.

P.S See you on 3rd August on convocation hehe.

Woohoo back here after a week? It feels longer than that hmm. Had two tests today which both of them went quite badly I think -.- Sustainability quiz which was supposedly easier but I guess I can only be confident of my answers for like 6 out of 15 questions whattttt not even a pass?! Accounting test today what a joke. Can only balance shit as usual. Sucks that I can never balance anything. I really really really want to do better than a B+ for Accounting leh :( All talk no action, too lazy to prepare for Accounting tomorrow. And project meeting tomorrow early in the morning ohwell.

Shall tumblr a while till 12.30am and maybe read a little of Accounting and then sleep. Yes, I can do it.

Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

Really pretty amazed how I am so in love with The Fray after the free concert LOL. They said their lyrics come second to their melody/tune, but how can their lyrics make so much sense when it is only their second priority?!

Okay survive tomorrow and then watch TVD finally tomorrow night hehehe. Maybe I should go for a swim. Cause I cant really run with a semi injured tendon. Mehhh.

Monday's coming again :( Spent my weekends on other things as usual, OH WELL. Volunteered on Saturday, ST run on Sunday. So much thoughts now, must record it down before I forget everything.

It's kind of sad how our parents are growing older and I really didnt think about it till recently. Was talking to my mum about what am I going to do in the future and then kidding about how they will be like in the future... Became a little sad when I thought about how they will become less fit/mobile. Volunteering on Saturday made me even more sad when I see old people losing their freedom to move. And how some old people end up having nothing much left to look forward. Came to a realisation why people want to get married, the want/need to not be alone maybe oh well.

Sighhhh maybe life is too short to do anything you don't like. How sad is it that most people don't do things they love cause they have no idea what they like (including myself). Doing things that you don't hate cause you don't know what you like. Reading the market behaviour textbook and then realised I was actually interested in Market Research. And then I realised people don't really take Marketing to do that. Psychology hmm. Maybe should just go further my studies in Psychology after working for a few years in the future. But then again I don't even know whether I am really interested in it. Okay, shall just see how.

ST run on Sunday at Punggol Waterway. OMG waking at unearthly hours which is 5am omggg. Caught the second bus to Sengkang in an attempt to be punctual. The scenery along Punggol wasn't that bad, but didn't like running there cause of uneven lands and wooden bridges (upslode arghhhh). Running alone erm.. Yes eating alone is therapeutic but running alone is not. Can't tell people this cause it's too embarrassing. The last km was super torturous and there was no one to scream at me to "HOLD ON" Shall wait for the official time to be out.

Okay, tiring day, good night.

Feeling so sleepy even before 11pm. I have no idea whether it's the hormones or I am just not used to school. Oh well. Here to waste some time when I become more awake.

Time flies and it's the second week of school and I feel I am lagging behind already :( I spent my first week lazing around because I didn't have much school. Then I realised there's a lot of things to be done. Like Accounting quiz next week omgggg. 3rd week only, are you kidding me SIGHHHH.

I know I probably should stop complaining cause I am so lucky to get the good accounting tutor :) That's the only small victory I have with Star Wars. Seriously my luck for Star Wars is crappy. Couldn't get POM or Career Foundation even though it was a one in five chance. The excuse they give me for career foundation is really retarded arghhhh. Let's hope I still get to do PA and go on exchange. Submitted my application super early. Kind of want to go Taiwan/Korea/Japan more than HK actually. But it's not like I will get HK since everyone wants it (for clearing modules).

Finally had lessons for every single of my module! Malay wasn't that bad but I think I have to S/U it cause I obviously can't learn a language so fast. Genes R Us just reminds me of the A level bio days, hmm. Market Behaviour was quite interesting but it's going to remind me of OB EWWWW. Accounting II er, accounting is always chim but hey it's maths! Okay I think I weirdly like maths but not enough to do BnF or Actuarial or major in maths.

The past weekend was awesome. Colour Run on Saturday which was free thanks to a friend :) Not bad getting colours all over myself. Unique experience but I won't participate in it again. The goodie bag is not that awesome anyway. Okay some photos hehe.

Didn't manage to get the green and blue dye during the run. The blue powder was from like the finish line festival. Ohhh Before You Exit performed and I must say, they look so much better in real life than in photos. Shall check them out when I am more free ;) Not bad huhhh, they write their own songs.

Then spent Sunday visiting GP tutor and playing lawn bowl. So tempted to pick up some sport now. Not forgetting looking at wine. I feel so old now. It's really kind of entertaining when the gp tutor started talking to you about wine hahaha. Like the last time we were still underage erm kids. Had island creamery icecream. YAY TO FATS. I really like the chendol flavour HAHA WEIRD TASTE. But nothing can beat rum and raisin from Salted Caramel, I feel.

Okay probaby an incoherent post, good night. Time for more studying oh well.

First week of school which I only have to turn up in school for three times cause I don't even have enough AUs. And then now, I have enough AUs but I don't want to do comm fund oh well. :(

Just finished my exchange essay and hand up my choices for exchange. Putting HK on the top on my list cause it looks like I can clear the most number of modules and I can be back in Singapore by May. Not that I love Singapore so much, but it's cause I can't clear my Professional Attachment in December cause the school refuses to give me Career Foundation.

Every single day I am staring at the slots on STARS planner as if I am looking at stocks on stock exchange market. ARGHHH how lameee. But maybe I should be glad for Accounting slot. And learning Malay this semester woohoo.

My skin is so cui, probably should stop taking caffeine for fun and sleep earlier and maybe run tomorrow morning. Need to train for my runs. Colour run on Saturday :) And then Straits Times Run the week after. Hopefully it will be fine and I can run all the way!

Nighttt.

Really should be studying for my finals but I am feeling so sleepy again. :( Caffeine addict now. It's so bad for my health but I can't help it. SIGH. Trying to convince myself that if it's green tea, it can't be that bad right?

Anyway if you are feeling really bored, feel free to check the list of songs below. I am assuming that there are people who actually bother reading this hahahaa.

  1. Heart Attack(the cover by Sam Tsui and Chrissy) Super gooooood (Y)
  2. Mirrors- Justin Timberlake (quite a while back already I guess)
  3. Just keep breathing- We The Kings
Two papers down. OB was really bad. Really wonder if going into marketing will be a wrong choice. After 19-20 years in my life, I think I may be more suited for maths. Surprise surprise. SIGHHH.

Okay really damn cui. Shall read one more chap of econs (please be nice to me, you were so mean during A levels) before going to sleep. Good nighttt. One more week and we will be no longer fresh. Okay lame is lame. No more freshie!

Hi Friday. Well well, this week was kind of tiring with three quizzes but I am glad that they went okay. At least I hope Econs went well.

Sometimes I really need to get over myself. I mean, stop being so sensitive when people are trying to imply my econs sucks so that's why I am still doing econs now. I mean, yeah my econs isn't fantastic but that comment isn't that nice too, oh well.

Semester 2 is going to come to an end soon. Next week will be the last week woohoo. Year 2, wow. Hopefully I will be in the specialization I like. After close to two semesters, I have stopped regretting the fact that I am in NBS. Okay maybe regret is too strong a word. But I really feel so sad studying Business throughout the first semester. Maybe it's the modules. Anyway, think I have been blessed with good project groups during this semester :) Even for OB, which we were randomly assigned to groups.

This week I tried Nando's for the first time and finally got a free cone on B&J's free cone day. Thanks to people who queued up for me. Ahhh, sometimes I am too whiny, aunty and angsty for my own good oops. Nando's was pretty good but please don't try the coleslaw. So much for trying to be healthy. :( Go check out Instagram for the photo of the 1/4 chicken meal. Nomnomnom. Should order Hot next time! Oh tried chocolate cake from Awfully Chocolate for the first time also. I LIKE. HAHA, the cake now reminds me of how the expression of the Biz Ops prof when we offered him the cake LOL.

Oh talking about food, I think everyone who loves chocolate should try Mr Bean's Hazelnut Royale's pancake. :) It's going to be my new favourite pancake (sorry to caramel custard pancake oops). It's like Ferreo Rocher in a pancake! :D

Glutton Jane has come to the end of her post about food. Time for some tumblr pictures.

The yellow skirt reminds me of some skirt at Uniqlo. Pretty pretty.

The day when I went a little crazy in reblogging dog related photos...

People who asked why uni kids seem so busy should seriously go knock their head against the table or something... Okay I am so mean/angsty/bitchy as usual, oh well. Haha always been telling my friends that I wish I can smack the jc teachers for telling me A levels is the worst part of our education lives. Uni is like A levels happening every semester.

Just reached home from a super looooong marketing meeting. Please, let me get an A for marketing. I realised now that there is nothing that I want to do other than marketing. I don't even feel inclined towards B&F now. I still like the idea of sounding pro and quoting bond values and all the chim terms in finance... I still like the idea of having a definite answer and not having to smoke through essays hahaha. Marketing is really different, I guess. I like how the future prospects sound like. I like how easy you can apply the concepts in daily life even though I think I am lagging behind. Self reminder: Read marketing channel again.

Recess week flew past like an airplane. Oops don't tell me I am lame, I know it. Haha I think this convo summarises how my recess week was:

Friend: How was your last week?
Me: What happened last week? Oh.. Recess week.

Yeah it doesn't even feel like a recess week. And I always wonder whether it is only NBS kids who feel this way or it is across all schools and faculties.

And recess week was so unproductive. What happened to all the plans of doing up OB notes and look at some past year papers?! I didn't even have the time to open the OB textbook :( Maybe I was too lazy hahaha. And the only days I did something was on like Tues and Sat where I camped at the library. Okay wrong word since I only studied from like erm 10am to 6pm. Anw so happy for the tauhuay on Tues (laoban is forever the best) and meeting my best foodie friend on Saturday. Always glad for the conversations we have about life and relationships hehe.

Weird thought. Do people fall for people who are really different, or do they like people who are kind of similar to them? Hmm.

Another thought. Really need to stop caring what others think. And stop overthink. Or wanting people to show more concern/care for you.

Okay so tired. :s Well at least stats test is over..

Cause you are the piece of me

Wow hell week is officially over :D TGIF. Well well, this week was really a hell week because of one presentation on Tuesday, 10% quiz on Wednesday, another presentation, two quizzes on Friday... Oh and critical thinking which was due.

Well I have to say I am not the most motivated student around. :( Couldn't focus on studying and keep wanting to play Temple Run, read tweets and Tumblr. The only thing that stops me from going onto Tumblr is the fact that I don't want to see spoilers of TVD. But the truth is I kind of know what happened during the last episode and I think my heart cannot take it :'( SIGH PIE.

Marketing Plan presentation was okay and I finally redeemed myself ever since my worthy of B comm fund presentation last year. But I suck at Q&A. ARGH, should just voice out whatever answers I have. I am too shy really. Lots of things to research and sometimes I do regret choosing the product sian. I will persevere, just cause it's marketing and I really really really like Marketing a lot. Surprise surprise.

Biz Ops quiz was okay too. Maybe that was the average but I Shall work hard for biz ops. I guess interest in a subject is pretty important.

OB presentation was bad LOL. Lousy presenter sian. Someday I will successfully manage to conceal any form of nervousness I exhibit when I am presenting.

Okay bye. Shall do some biz ops and maybe watch TVD. Stats case study due next week. :O OKAY GOOD LUCK TO MYSELF.

Learn to love again by Lawson is pretty addictive.

Had so much plans to finish my work but doing 4 chapters of OB took so long, this is really bad. I guess I have to chiong some work on Saturday in order to not do work on like first day of CNY.
Econs lecture which I didn't attend and haven't finish watching yet, econs tutorial undone, marketing slides, designing a water bottle for marketing... Only good thing is that I finished Stats.

And I feel so screwed for Critical Writing. Really feel damn screwed for OB. Really kind of biased against OB :S

First quiz of the sem tmr. People are studying so hard but I feel so chillax. Good night world. Oh happy cny in advance. It's the season to get fat oh no, haven't run for so long thanks to freaking projects and rainy days :(

Have this love-hate relationship with mathematics. Thought I always hate calculations and maths, thinking it doesn't make sense to see this whole bunch of numbers. Then I think again, I remember how math is the only subject I like to study (actually just practise) in jc. Look at my IT paper and you can tell how I can't seem to bullshit.

Why I should do B&F:

  • B&F is maths vs grey areas for marketing.
  • Less group work and presentations I think.
  • Got MCQs for papers (okay what a dumb reason) vs 40 marks essay for marketing.
  • Money prospects $.$
Why I should do Marketing:
  • B&F is maths (okay I say it's a love-hate relationship already whattt)
  • All the smart talented math people will take B&F
  • Marketing seems challenging and fun which I like
  • Less stress
Why I shouldn't do any of the following:
  • B&F is the top specialisation and I guess marketing is a close second for smart people who don't really like maths. Bell curve won't help me in either specialisation.

I still hear the songs, reminding me of a friend.

OKAY GOOD NIGHTTT.

If I said I wished you the best I was lying

Aww.
Been playing Lovesick Fool on repeat now. I can't understand why I am suddenly obsessed with this song haha.

Well it's week 2 of Sem 2. Tutorials have started but I am still quite slack OH WELL. I don't have the motivation. :( Left one question of stats tutorial but I feel like I am not learning anything much from doing my work. The only good thing is that I think I really like Marketing cause it feels practical and something that is easier to identify with. So I guess I may really go into Marketing if I can do quite well for it. But then again, my GPA so cui, how to get into Marketing. OB text seems pretty interesting (not looking forward to projects anyway).

Biz Ops isn't going too well I guess. SIGHHH WHY WHY WHY.

Anw I should really do some more and really focus instead of watching TV, read people's blogs etc. Really really want to go on exchange. Opened up the list of schools in an attempt to motivate myself which obviously didn't work. Copenhagen business school sounds tempting (ok I just like how Copenhagen feels -.-) but I don't mind a lot of other places.

OKAY it feels good to have someone I know in every class I am in. Okay maybe not econs but 1hr whatever.

And what on earth happened to swimming in the morning?!
