Unless you have been living under a rock in Singapore, all Singaporeans/all who reside in Singapore should have heard of McDonald's Nasi Lemak Burger, Chendol McFlurry and Bandung McFizz, which was sold out just in two weeks. Well, kudos to the Marketing team (I assume) for this brilliant marketing campaign, to launch localised products to celebrate special occasions (National Day in this case).

If you take a closer look, McDonald's wasn't the only fast food restaurant that launched national dishes related food. Look at Burger King's newer launch of Hainanese Chicken Rice and Rendang Burger, which are also inspired by Singaporeans' favourite dishes. Ahhh, indeed the power of marketing.

So, with a long list of national dishes (okay, our neighbours might dispute that they do it better haha), here's a list of possible localised fast food, in my opinion.

1. Pepper crab burger

A couple of cafes like Artistry, LePark in Singapore have already incorporated crab into their burgers. Chili crab burgers are so yesteryear,  so move over chili crabs and let's have pepper crab burgers instead😌

While McDonald's had salt and pepper shaker fries previously, there is no one (at least based on my knowledge and Google) with pepper crab burgers.

Tadah, you can thank me for the idea later on.

2. Durian pie

Flavours like apple, taro, banana and even coconut are being offered. So when are we going to get pies of our all-time favourite fruit? Well, maybe one should also consider mangosteen drinks/soft-serve to complement durian pie cause what is the king without the queen.

3. Fries with fish/mutton curry sauce

If fish/mutton curry goes well with potatoes, there is no reason why fries won't go well with fish/mutton curry right? In fact, aren't people already requesting for curry sauce to go with their fries?

So yeah, this combination does sound workable and yummy (or at least it sounds yummy in my head).😋

4. Ice blended coffee with Bandung

While I am not a fan of Bandung, I am pretty sure there are many other Singaporeans who swear by this drink which is made from rose syrup with evaporated/condensed milk. If rose lattes/coffee can be popular and taste good, maybe the combination of Bandung and coffee might taste good as well? (Also read this if you are a fan of rose latte)

5. Bak Chor Mee burger

One of my favourite hawker dishes will have to be bak chor mee with a lot of vinegar, chili sauce and mushrooms. There are already a few places with bak chor mee inspired food e.g. Kerbside Gourmet but none of them (I think) are using mee pok/mee kia as the "bun" in the burger.

Instead of having fried ramen noodles as the "bun", why not use fried mee pok/mee kia?

As for the patty, it should be made of minced meat marinated in vinegar and the chili sauce that accompanies our typical bak chor mee. Yum.

Yup, that's five possible food that could be incorporated into our fast food imo. While the localised fast food e.g. McDonald's Nasi Lemak Burger does taste not bad (my opinion again), nothing beats the real authentic local food. And I am pretty grateful for the wide assortment of food Singapore offers 😍😋

With that, happy birthday Singapore!💖

What a morbid thought. Really?

When we were younger, all we wanted to be was to be older. To have the freedom to pursue whatever we like, to have the monetary means to buy whatever we want...

But are we doing that? Or are we just slowly dying every day. I can't help but be reminded of this essay's topic that was popular during secondary school- "Every life is a death sentence". Sidenote, how could they figure out the truth in that statement during secondary school but I am only understanding it now? #latebloomer

Why do we want to grow up so fast? Yeah, think I am really slow because growing up only makes me realise how death is no longer a stranger, how our loved ones are aging...  And all these realisations just lead to too many questions and thoughts about death.

Is it better to die of a sudden heart attack or to suffer from a terminal illness, knowing the number of years you still have? What kind of stage do you give up on conventional treatments and go for palliative care?

Not sure if reading books related to mortality like "Being mortal" by Atul Gawande and "When breath becomes air" by Paul Kalanithi are helping much. The latter's epilogue just had me tearing (haven't experienced that in a long time). And reading career-related/seize the day type of books just makes me question my choices.

Fear setting. Lizard brain. "Are you happy?". Igikai.

Is this the quarter-life crisis? Is this an existential crisis?
